HOW WE THINK YOU CAN WRITE BETTER
o1; stop aiming for a high word counted, thesaurafied, pretentious bit of writing.
Cookie hates the thesaurus. Cookie believes the thesaurus is the spawn of Satan. Cookie believes there is a reason why the thesaurus and all of its dinosaur friends, are dead.Do not use the thesaurus!Discontinue exerting the utility of the rather large book which contains feigned synonyms of perfectly acceptable lexeme!
Velico does not have a word count. If someone posts a thousand words of nothingness, you are obligated only to post nothing. Conversely, if someone posts a paragraph of infinite action and vivid imagery, try to do the same. No one-liners are ever acceptable.
Only cookie is allowed to be pretentious and it's because she has a college degree. You might have a college degree, and if you do - good on you. You're still not a cookie with a college degree and, therefore, should not be pretentious.
(PS. Pebbles and bricks are not interesting enough to have even a sentence to themselves. In fact, don't mention them; they are evil. Pebbles and bricks are bad, bad things.)
o2; be animated.
There is no harm in writing like a normal RPer (droning on and on about the sky and how your character is walking and walking and walking and walking and walking and walking) and then, in the middle of a post, mention something like A THUD! Or a BANG! And using these onomatopoeias is not a bad thing! Create a vivid scene that will not make your reader go brain dead by the second paragraph.
The first rule of writing is: show, don't tell. I want to visualize what you're writing about!
Maybe, for a bit of action, your character is walking along in the leaf-bare weather and then BAM- he or she falls in the river and LOSES HIS OR HER FOOTING (omg!) and he starts to flail about and panic (or not, because we all know your mary sue/marcus stue character never panics and gets out safely *lame*) AND THEN MAYBE SOMEONE CAN COME AND SAVE HIM!
o3; be at least a bit realistic.
If you're writing a history- think about it.
stop trying to make us cry
no, not even good writing of a sad story will always make someone cry. Cookie to date has never cried over a book so your logic is invalid.
Characters like this have no right to reproduce.
Also think about the personality a bit realistically…
if your character fell into the river when he or she was young, and his sister died because of a flood, and the rain the next year turned the land into a swamp and they went hungry - your character is not going to like water much. In fact, if your character NEARLY DROWNED TO DEATH, said character would probably be afraid of water. I know asking people to create fears and flaws in a character is tough n' all, but it must be done!
o4; you are not Stephen King
So stop trying.
o5; muse is not what you believe it is.
Muse is like the spoon in matrix - it does not exist. You can always post, you don't have to have inspiration.
Courtesy posting- you don't have to like it, it just has to have action to respond to.
